小説や映画にＳＦがありますが、さしずめ 「 西暦２５２５年 」 は歌でのＳＦでしょう。
「 西暦２５２５年 」 は、リック・エバンスが１９６４年頃既に作詞･作曲していた曲と言います。
この曲をテキサスのローカル・レーベルから発売したところ人気急上昇。
当時若い人向けの音楽に力を入れていたメジャーのＲＣＡが権利を買取り、
再発売したところアメリカで６周連続第１位、イギリスでも３週連続１位を記録する大ヒットとなりました。
２５２５年から１００００年までの、環境破壊や人類の驕りからの人類滅亡の危機を憂う、
地球の未来を悲観的に歌ったＳＦ的世界の歌です。
千年単位で未来を語っており、１万年先までを順に歌われていますが、
しかしどうして７千年代と８千年代は中途半端な年号になっているんでしょうねえ。
時代の先を読んだスケールの大きい歌として、今でも評価が高く歌い継がれています。
日本でも同年に発売され、１１週連続してトップテンテン内にランクされ、４０万枚近いセールスを記録しています。

[ ゼーガー ＆ エバンス ] Zager And Evans
デニー・ゼーガー [ Denny Zager ] １９４３年２月１８日アメリカ・ネブラスカ州 ワイモア ( Wymore) 生まれ。
リック・エバンス [ Rick Evans] １９４３年１月２０日アメリカ・ネブラスカ州 リンカーン ( Lincoln ) 生まれ。
ゼーガーとエバンスは１９６０年代前半に、「 エクセントリックス 」 と言う５人組のバンドで活動していた事がありました。
その後二人で、ポップデュオ 「 ゼーガー ＆ エバンス 」 を結成します。
１９６９年、彼等は「 西暦２５２５年 」 でメジャーデビューを果たします。
当時、社会派の曲が商業ベースで発売されヒットした時代であり、
ベトナム戦争など争い事に人々が疲れ、心の安らぎを求めた時代でもありました。
これらを背景にした、６０年代末らしいヒット曲と云えるでしょう。
又、この歌はＳＦチックなもので、１９６８年の映画 「 ２００１年宇宙の旅 」 や、
１９６９年にはアポロ１１号が月に行った年など、ＳＦものが流行った時機でもありました。
この曲は大ヒットしましたが、あまりにもスケールの大きい内容の歌詞であったため、
次の曲に悩みヒットが出ず、第２弾の 「 Mr.Turkey 」 ・ 第３弾 「 Listen to the People 」、
そして第４弾 「 Crutches 」 の何れもがチャートの圏外でした。
これを以て、「 ゼーガー ＆ エバンス 」 は１９７１年解散してしまいます。
大ヒットしすぎた故の世紀の１発屋で終わってしましまいましたが、でもきっと後世に残る名曲と言えます。
